Onpage Search Engine Optimization

The aim of search engine optmization is to tell the search engines what you are relevant to - which search terms you should rank highly for. As I mentioned in Step 2 - this ongoing process is a mixture of onpage and offpage optimization. First we focus on onpage optimization.

Even, If you've never heard of SEO the content that exists on your webpages will already telling the search engines what it relates to. The point of onpage optimization is to focus and refine this content information by highlighting and stressing through various simple techniques what that particular webpage is actually about.

This is our claim of relevancy. It's us as webmasters saying "this is what this site or this page is about". The search engines will then categorize your website by its theme and will look to external links and user behaviour to help determine your websites true worth and relevance to its claimed searched terms. This is offpage optimization but before you reach that the onpage techniques you can use include:

1. Including a keyword rich title on the page,

2. The appropriate use of Meta Tags,

2. Using Image Alt Tags,

4. Using Header Tags for your main and secondary keywords,

5. Including your keywords in the content of your page,

6. The appropriate keyword density and placement,

By doing all of this, the search engines will know that the home page of SEOSelfHelp is relevant to the keyword phrase "SEO Tutorial" and that this page, for example, is relevant to "Onpage Search Engine Optimization".
